What happens at your Criminal trial?

If you claim trial, you are expected to bring along evidence including witnesses (if any) in support of your defence on the day of the trial.

At the end of the trial, the Court will decide whether you are guilty. If the Court finds that you are guilty of the offence, you will be asked if you have any mitigating facts to present to the court. Thereafter, the court will pass its sentence.

If the Court finds that you not guilty, you will be acquitted and discharged.

On the day of the trial, you may be required by the Court to state your defence after the Prosecution has completed its case against you. If you are unable to do so, you will be found guilty and convicted.

If you are able to raise a reasonable doubt in the Prosecution’s case you will be acquitted and released immediately.
